What do a Texan, an Australian, and a New Yorker have in common? This summer, three Rabbinical students - Levi Dubrawky of Dallas Texas and his friends Dov Barber of Melbourne Australia and Meir New of Brooklyn New York – will embark upon an exciting journey of Jewish national unity. They have five weeks, one Mitzvah mobile, and a mission.
“By traveling across America,” Levi explains, “we have the opportunity to involve as many different types of Jews as possible to join in this cause. “We will be traveling in a Mitzvah mobile,” say Levi, “a van fully-loaded with everything Jewish - books, videos, and paraphernalia; it’s like a traveling educational center.” “Our goal is to help at least one-thousand Jewish men and women to perform a Mitzvah-a good deed by the end of our trip.”
The "Road Sages" created a website and blog (www.theroadsage.org) to provide a “virtual GPS” for people wanting to keep tabs on their “Mitzvah count,” and join them in their journey. “This is a journey everyone and anyone can participate in,” says Dov, “they should see Levi, Meir and me as their personal representatives in this great event.”
“The memory of Gavi and Rivkah Holtzburg, young emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe brutally murdered by terrorists in Mumbai, lives on,” says Meir New; “it lives on through people who do good deeds, which was a trait that this young couple embodied’’ explains Meir. “Our goal is not to dwell on the events, but to use them as an impetus for growth – to inspire acts of kindness - a little light dispels a lot of darkness”.
The event is sponsored by the Lubavitch Youth Organization located in Brooklyn, NY. “This event may be the first of its kind,” says Rabbi Shlomo Friedman,” “but you never know what the future holds…this could be the beginning of a new line of road sages.”
